AI Won’t Save Your Business

AI isn’t going to save your business — you are. We’ve fallen for this before: outsourcing was going to save us, then social media, and now AI. But the truth is, tools don’t solve leadership problems. Sure, AI can help with productivity, but if you're hoping it’ll fix your team, your systems, or your lack of clarity — it won’t. Because the real challenge isn’t your employees or the tech. It’s us — the leaders. Leading people is hard. Leading with AI in the mix? Even harder. Your team will worry about being replaced, and AI will still make mistakes. The skills you need to manage humans — clarity, empathy, vision — are the same ones you’ll need to manage AI effectively. If you haven't built those yet, no tool will save you. It’s time to stop outsourcing responsibility and start asking better questions, setting clear vision, and growing into the leader your business actually needs.

Reading “Invent and Wander” made me pause—not because of grand, disruptive ideas (though it has plenty)—but because of how consistently Bezos returns to a surprisingly human principle: long-term thinking grounded in customer obsession. What struck me most wasn’t the scale of Amazon or Blue Origin, but the clarity of intention behind them. Bezos isn’t just inventing cool things; he’s relentlessly aligning invention with service, discipline, and patience. The way he talks about building for the long arc—choosing to plant seeds that may take years to grow—reminded me that ambition isn't just about scale, but about endurance. What stays with me is this: true innovation doesn’t sprint toward outcomes; it commits to principles that can outlive any single product or trend. Invent and Wander isn’t a how-to manual—it’s a mindset, one that asks: If you’re going to build, why not build something that matters for a very long time?

Maybe it's because he trains hypnotists or knows NLP, or maybe it's because he's from Toronto—I honestly don't know what it is, but Chris Thompson is one of those friends who's just incredibly fun to be around.
