Why Compliments Make You Uncomfortable (The Real Reason) | Networking With Impact

This past weekend in Chicago at the IBCP annual event, I was on stage talking about something I’m truly passionate about the art and science of networking. And I asked one question that stirred up way more buzz than I expected.

See, most people network all wrong. They network for leads or contacts. But real networking? It’s about becoming top of mind about letting people fall in love with who you are.

And that leads to the real question: Who are they falling in love with?

To help the audience dig into that, I shared three questions:
1️⃣ What do you love to do outside of work?
2️⃣ Where do you love to help people?
3️⃣ And this last one, the one that hit hardest, What is one compliment you’ve received that made you feel uncomfortable?

That last question stopped people in their tracks. Because often, that uncomfortable compliment is a mirror, showing you something true about yourself that you haven’t yet accepted or embraced. Maybe it’s your voice. Your presence. Your kindness. Your confidence. Whatever it is, that reflection might just be the part of you that others already see… and it’s time you saw it too.

So I’ll ask you the same thing:
👉 What’s one compliment you’ve received that made you feel uncomfortable?

Bonus Insight 🎁

Are you building relationships or just collecting contacts?

In my latest LinkedIn post, I share how true networking starts with self-awareness, not self-promotion.

What We’re Building with AI 🤖

📽️ TrueMD Institute - Freedom 30™ Tracker

This week, we turned a massive 120-day medical launch checklist into an interactive AI-powered tracker. Why? Because tools don’t create clarity — clarity creates progress.

Our insight? AI works best when you know yourself. When you’re clear on your goals, tools like GenSpark or Bolt.new amplify your focus. Without self-awareness, they just amplify chaos.

We built the Freedom 30 Launch App to make that clarity visible, one intentional step at a time.

Book I’m Currently Reading 📚

Grover’s book is all about inner mastery — the kind that starts with self-awareness. You can’t perform at your highest level if you don’t understand what drives you, triggers you, or holds you back.

My favorite takeaway: “You can’t be relentless if you’re lying to yourself.”

👉 A must-read if you’re learning to stop hiding from your strengths and start owning them fully.
