The Hidden Costs of AI Employees
So, I built an AI employee to help promote my new book The Delegation Trap, and it’s about to generate 5,000 leads. Sounds amazing, right? But here’s what no one really talks about: the real costs behind the scenes of using AI.
It all started with a simple idea sparked by a conversation with a fellow author. I created an AI system to collect contact info from over 4,500 chambers of commerce across the U.S., using tools like Firecrawl, Apify, OpenAI, and Airtable. The process was automated and efficient, pulling emails, websites, phone numbers, and social links into a lead database. So far, it's working great and leads are coming in.
But here’s the catch: it’s not cheap. One part of the workflow costs about 76 cents per site, which adds up to around $3,400 just to build the list. That doesn’t include tool subscriptions or the next AI agent to run follow-up campaigns. Yes, AI can save time and scale your work, but it’s not free. We need to start factoring these hidden costs into how we plan, budget, and grow.

What We’re Building with AI 🤖
📽️ Under the Hood of Chatbots
Chatbots are everywhere right now—but most of them just spit out preloaded answers. I wanted to show you what we’ve been working on behind the scenes: an AI chatbot that actually learns and grows with you. We built a system that doesn’t just store static info—it connects to your YouTube, Google Drive, and soon even your social posts, updating itself daily with new content. So when someone asks your bot a question, it can pull insights from across your real-world content—like video transcripts, blogs, and docs—and deliver a smart, personalized answer.
No more outdated responses or constant manual updates. This is a self-updating RAG system (retrieval augmented generation), and we’re building it to work not just for us—but for every client we serve. It's already in motion for our community launch, and honestly… this is just one small piece of a much bigger (and cooler) AI puzzle we’re putting together.

Book I’m Currently Reading 🕮
“If your doctor told you to avoid red meat, salt, or sunlight — you might want a second opinion.”
Reading Lies My Doctor Told Me by Dr. Ken Berry felt like sitting across from a doctor who finally spoke with both honesty and humility. The book challenged many of the health beliefs I’ve unknowingly carried for years — from the fear of saturated fat to the unquestioned loyalty to prescription meds. What struck me most was how Dr. Berry exposed not just misinformation, but the deep-rooted trust we place in the white coat — sometimes to our own detriment. His candid tone and personal journey from conventional doctor to myth-buster reminded me that being informed is a form of self-respect. I walked away not just with facts, but with a renewed commitment to question, to read labels, and most importantly — to listen to my body over outdated advice.
