Why Presence Builds Real Relationships

We’ve all been told that trust is the foundation of every great relationship — in business, leadership, and life. But what if that’s not true?

This weekend, I listened to my friend Tresa share something that completely flipped my perspective: Trust isn’t the foundation — it’s the peak. The true foundation of every relationship is presence.

That hit me hard. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve been guilty of showing up everywhere except where it mattered most. I told myself I was working for my family but I wasn’t with them. My wife, my youngest daughter — they felt that absence, even when I was in the room.

Presence is what makes trust possible. Without being fully here — emotionally, mentally, physically, no amount of authenticity talk will build real connection.

👉 So here’s my challenge to you: Look at your own relationships — at home, with your team, with your clients. Are you truly present… or just showing up?
